The Teguise City Council has denounced "vandalism" that has recently been committed in the municipality and that "has destroyed solar streetlights." Damage that it affirms represents "a considerable economic loss, even more so after the City Council has increased its investment in sustainable public lighting."
In this sense, Eugenio Robayna has lamented the destruction suffered this weekend at the bus stop located on the Tahíche road, “which had a new solar streetlight, as has been installed in other points of Tahíche and other rural areas of the municipality with little lighting.”
Robayna assures that “the damage caused will be repaired as soon as possible in order to guarantee the visibility and safety of the places where these streetlights are located and recalls that in recent years at least 150 new solar lights have been installed.”
“It is a shame that the investment that is carried out in lighting or any other infrastructure and public furniture is undermined by this type of uncivil and punishable actions,” said the mayor, Oswaldo Betancort, who affirms that “the commitment to clean energy in Teguise will continue because, in addition to avoiding the high costs of channeling, wiring and connection to the electricity grid, it represents a further step in positioning Teguise as a responsible municipality aware of the direction that must be taken in favor of environmental conservation.”
“In the next Cooperation Plan that will be launched with the collaboration of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, we will continue to bet on energy and economic savings, because it is a mandatory investment in Teguise and in Lanzarote as a Biosphere Reserve, if we want to be at the forefront of respect for our environment,” said Betancort, who announced the upcoming installation of 70 new light points.
