A man armed with a knife has died, shot dead by the Police, after attempting to rob a taxi driver at Gran Canaria Airport, as confirmed by the Superior Headquarters of the Canary Islands in a statement.
The events took place in the accesses to the international flights terminal at around 4:50 p.m., when agents of the National Police "had to use their firearms after the violent action of the man who, allegedly, tried to commit a robbery with violence using a knife against a taxi driver in the vicinity of Gran Canaria Airport."
During the police intervention, the aggressor lunged at the officers with the weapon, "forcing them to repel the attack through the regulatory use of their firearms."
Emergency services were immediately activated, both from the airport and the Canary Health Service, who tried to revive the individual, although they could only confirm his death.
National Police officers remain at the scene, including agents from the Judicial Police, the Scientific Police Brigade, and the Homicide Group, carrying out the corresponding procedures.
The judicial commission has also been activated, and the National Police continues to work to clarify the facts.
