A helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) has rescued a 37-year-old paraglider injured with severe polytrauma after suffering a fall in Órzola.
The events occurred at 14:04 hours when the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security (Cecoes) 1-1-2 of the Government of the Canary Islands received an alert reporting the fall of a paraglider in a difficult-to-access location in the vicinity of the take-off area.
The GES rescue helicopter, a SUC medicalized ambulance, Local Police, and Civil Protection have been dispatched to the scene.
The rescuers from the GES helicopter rappelled from the aircraft and accessed the affected individual, and after providing initial care, they hoisted him on a stretcher to the aircraft to evacuate him to the Lanzarote airport. Once on the ground, the SUC personnel assessed and assisted the paraglider, who, after being stabilized, was transferred in serious condition in a medicalized ambulance to the José Molina Orosa Hospital.
