Agents of the National Police and the General Corps of the Canarian Police carried out a joint operation on the island of Gran Canaria on December 16, as part of an investigation into alleged crimes against the sexual freedom and integrity of minors.
The investigation began after the exchange of information obtained in parallel by both police forces, which allowed for the detection of coinciding indications of possible criminal activity related to the sexual exploitation of minors. From that moment on, close judicial and police coordination was established, which allowed progress in the investigative proceedings.
As a result of the operation deployed, four people were arrested and two searches were carried out in homes in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and two in the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana.During these operations, officers seized various digital and computer equipment, as well as storage devices, a revolver-type firearm, in addition to confiscating narcotic substances in three of the inspected residences
Investigations suggest that the detainees may be involved in facilitating sexual encounters with minors, with the alleged victims being young people residing in protection centers dependent on the Government of the Canary Islands.
The operation, which remains open and does not rule out further arrests, has led to the location of a total of seven victims.Once the police proceedings were concluded, the detainees were placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, which ordered provisional detention for all four detainees
The National Police and the Canary Islands General Police Force reiterate their firm commitment to the fight against any form of child sexual exploitation and underline the importance of citizen collaboration in detecting and eradicating these particularly serious crimes.
