Agents of the National Police, belonging to the Family and Woman Care Unit (UFAM) of Telde and the Civil Guard of Gran Canaria, through the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA),
have investigated a resident of the municipality of Telde as the alleged perpetrator of a continuous crime of animal cruelty and mistreatment in a family setting, after gathering evidence related to the violent death of at least four dogs.
The investigation began on January 15, 2026, within the framework of joint collaboration between the National Police and the Civil Guard, after the investigated person's wife filed a complaint for gender violence.
During the police proceedings, the complainant stated that the man maintained a violent attitude towards the animals in the home, a situation that had generated fear in the family.
Following this information and the exchange of data between both police forces, the agents became aware of a series of events that could constitute a crime of animal cruelty resulting in death, for which the corresponding investigative actions were initiated.
SEPRONA agents carried out various actions to clarify what happened, managing to determine that the investigated person allegedly had ended the lives of at least four dogs, using a blunt object with which he had allegedly dealt fatal blows.
Subsequently, and with the aim of concealing the facts, the alleged perpetrator had buried the bodies of the animals in a plot of land adjacent to the home.
As a result of the joint investigation between the National Police and the Civil Guard, the corresponding proceedings were initiated for an alleged continuous crime of animal cruelty and mistreatment in a family setting.
Once the police proceedings were completed, the detainee was made available to the competent judicial authority.
