Local Police agents from Arrecife have arrested the alleged perpetrator of the arson of two vehicles after discovering that the events were related to a case of gender violence. The arson in these automobiles occurred recently on a central street in a neighborhood of the capital of Lanzarote, early in the morning.

Upon arrival, Arrecife police officers observed that the fire had already been extinguished by personnel from the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote. At the site where the combustion had started, there were remnants of combustible material that, presumably, was used to spread the fire, affecting two vehicles, so there was clear evidence of intent to cause damage.

As a result of initial investigations and thanks to citizen collaboration, and in collaboration with the UFAM (Family and Women's Care Unit) of the National Police Corps, it was determined that the events were directly related to a concurrence of crimes involving gender violence. The perpetrator was located an hour later by the Arrecife Local Police, one kilometer away from the scene.

Local Police officers in Arrecife proceeded, on the same morning as the arson attack, to arrest the alleged perpetrator for subsequent presentation before the judicial authority.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, who is also directly responsible for the Local Police Force in this city, has congratulated the officers for solving this new fire, where the police investigation has confirmed its connection to a regrettable case of gender violence.

The mayor reiterates that citizens should know that the Security Forces, including the Arrecife Police, always investigate crimes, including the episodes of arson that are being recorded in parts of the island, several of them in the city. The investigation and police evidence have allowed several of the perpetrators to be brought to justice, and the decision of the judges and magistrates determines their imprisonment, or their release, with or without charges.
