Officers from the Local Police of Arrecife proceeded, in just two days, to intervene in the vicinity of healthcare centers in the capital of Lanzarote, seizing three parking permits for people with reduced mobility that were being used fraudulently by third parties.

The agents of the Local Police of Arrecife activated an investigation to determine the fraud in the use of these blue cards. The constant surveillance carried out by the Local Police to verify the proper use of PMR parking spaces, in order to check that these types of reserved areas are used correctly, led to the discovery of these three fraudulent cards.

The Local Police emphasize that PMR cards are personal and non-transferable, and the original document must always be used. The card must be fully visible in the vehicle so that officers can verify its validity and originality.

It is also recalled that the only people authorized to park vehicles in these areas are those holding PMR cards. The fraudulent use of these cards may lead to administrative sanctions or even criminal convictions in cases where the falsity of the document can be determined

In 2024, 10 forged PMR cards were seized

The Local Police of Arrecife intervened during the past year 2024 a total of 10 cards for People with Reduced Mobility that were fraudulent in designated parking spaces, known as the blue zone, in the capital of Lanzarote.

Among the most notable fraudulent uses detected by local agents in Arrecife during the past year was the use, **by family members or caregivers**, of those PMR cards whose holders were not present.

The police investigation also managed to clarify the use of cards belonging to deceased individuals, as happened in the Charco de San Ginés area with the use of a card on a vehicle whose owner had passed away in 2019.

The cards seized during the past year were sent to the judicial authority as evidence of an alleged crime.
