The National Police in collaboration with agents of the Local Police of Arrecife have arrested in the capital of Lanzarote a 67-year-old Italian man against whom there was a European Arrest Warrant to be extradited to his country of origin for belonging to a criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking and murder.
According to La Voz, the arrest took place on Wednesday morning in a central pizzeria in front of the Gran Hotel de Arrecife, on the main avenue of the capital of Lanzarote. The man was arrested for a crime of documentary falsification and another against traffic safety.
Agents of the Local Police of Arrecife after stopping an individual who was driving negligently on a motorcycle, proceeded to transfer him to the National Police Station after verifying that he lacked a driver's license and at the same time the Italian identity card with which he had identified himself, presented sufficient indications of being a false document.
Once in the National Police facilities in Arrecife, the agents were able to corroborate the true identity of this person and discovered that a European Arrest Warrant was issued against him in September 2019 for events that occurred between 1988 and 1995. Among them, police sources have revealed to this editorial staff that he was also charged with the crimes of desecration of graves, injuries resulting in death, possession of weapons, components and explosives.
In addition, according to the National Police, the identified person was accused of belonging to a criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking and was also accused of participating in a murder with the use of a firearm in Italy. The man had been living in Lanzarote for 15 years with a false identity, after escaping from prison after five years in jail.
For such events, his arrest was carried out and after informing the Central Court of Guard number 2 of the National Court, its owner ordered his transfer to the Investigating Court of Guard of Arrecife, who ordered his imprisonment.
