A 51-year-old man of Spanish nationality is being investigated for false accusation. This man, with the initials M.E.O.G., reported to the Civil Guard that he had suffered an attack, but in reality he would have been the one who committed it, "posing as a victim."

The investigated reported on May 27 to the Benemérita an alleged physical assault committed in a pastry shop in the town of Playa Honda, "claiming that an employee had physically and verbally assaulted him," explains the police force.

However, after talking to witnesses of the events and collecting several images from security cameras, the Civil Guard "was able to observe that the aggressor was M.E.O.G. and not as he had stated in official premises." Thus, it was proceeded to investigate him as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of simulation of crime. The investigated has been made available to the corresponding Court, on guard duty, of the town of Arrecife.

In its statement, the Civil Guard recalls that the Penal Code punishes with fines of six to twelve months "anyone who pretends to be responsible or a victim of a criminal offense or reports a non-existent one."
