The Ministry of the Interior, through the General Directorate of the Police, has sent the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, a public recognition of the outstanding work carried out, a year ago now, by the agents of the Local Police of Arrecife, which allowed to stop, and subsequent identification, of an Italian mobster who had been residing for years in Lanzarote with a false identity.

As noted in this congratulation, received at the Arrecife City Council recently, this mobster has been extradited by the National Court of Spain, as he is accused of belonging to the murder with a firearm, and had a search and extradition order in force from Italy.

This is how the investigation was carried out by the Local Police of Arrecife, which now has received a public congratulation from the National Police Force, through the accidental chief inspector of the Arrecife Police Station.

The agents of the Local Police of Arrecife, belonging to the Documentoscopy Unit (UDOC), carried out an outstanding action on February 19, 2024, culminating in the arrest of a 67-year-old man of Italian nationality. This individual initially faced charges for document forgery and a crime against road safety for driving without a permit.

The incident took place when the motorcycle that the individual was driving was stopped in the capital of Lanzarote, at which time the agents proceeded to identify him. In this context, it is crucial to highlight the extensive experience of the acting agents in the detection of falsified documents, which allowed them, initially, to identify indications of falsification in the Italian identity card presented by the subject. Given this situation, the agents made the decision to carry out exhaustive checks to reveal the true identity of the driver, considering that in this type of cases they usually hide their identity for various reasons.

After the realization of the technical report of the document, the falsity of the same would be confirmed, the detainee was transferred to the facilities of the National Police, where, after taking fingerprints and the corresponding processing, his true identity was revealed. It was discovered that he was subject to an arrest and extradition order issued by the Italian authorities due to crimes committed between 1988 and 1995, including murder with a firearm, trafficking of large quantities of drugs and belonging to an Italian mafia criminal gang.

The detainee by the Local Police of Arrecife had resided in Arrecife for more than 16 years, where he managed several businesses in the capital city. The agents of the UDOC emphasize the extraordinary quality of the false identity document that the detainee, and now extradited, was carrying. That document allowed him to register in Spain with a false identity, register and even appear in the database of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) with said false information.

The skill and expertise of the UDOC agents were fundamental to discover this complex situation and carry out a detention of great relevance.

With the letter of congratulations to the three agents of the Local Police who intervened - their police plate numbers are noted - it is specified that from Lanzarote he was placed at the disposal of the National Court, through the Central Court number 2, materializing his expulsion and handed over to the judicial authorities of Italy.

The mayor of Arrecife, and direct head of the Local Police, is pleased that "the expertise, professionalism, and availability of technological means, allowed the identification in the capital of Lanzarote of this mobster who had been residing for years with a false identity, and for whom there was an international search warrant".

The real identity of the extradited, and detained by the Local Police of Arrecife, is Bruno Antonio Massa, belonging to an Italian mafia-type organization.
