Heavy rain arrives in Lanzarote and causes havoc in Haría

A downpour has fallen in the northern municipality, flooding some streets of the municipality and making access to the town difficult.

From the early hours of this Friday, December 22, rain and hail have appeared on the island of Lanzarote, as predicted by the State Meteorological Agency.

The most affected area has been the north of the island, specifically Haría. According to the mayor, Alfredo Villalba, "the accesses to Haría are flooded, it is very difficult to drive, so I ask citizens to be very careful, the ascent of Trujillo is collapsed with water."

The rain that has fallen on the north of the island has caused some landslides in the accesses to the municipality, which has forced their closure. However, the head of island roads, Jacobo Medina, maintains that they are working hard "to restore circulation as soon as possible", although it depends, of course, on the intensity of the rain.

From the Security and Emergency Consortium, chaired by Francisco Aparicio, they recommend that citizens do not make unnecessary trips if the rain falls heavily.

The intense rain is already running through the ravines of the north and you can already see in the area between Los Valles and El Mojón how the water is going down.

The Isolated Depression at High Levels (DANA) has already reached the eastern axis of the Canary Islands, specifically Lanzarote, the State Meteorological Agency has reported. During this Friday and until the afternoon, heavy rains will fall anywhere on the island, and will be accompanied by storms and hail. A storm that can cause problems throughout the day, the Emergency Consortium has highlighted.

For its part, Arrecife has decreed the activation of the Municipal Emergency Plan and the Arrecife Flood Risk Plan. Thus, and as reported by the mayor Yonathan de León, he has met with those responsible for the Municipal Emergency Plan in view of the evolution of the DANA.
