National Police agents arrested in Arrecife on September 17 and 18, a group of five people and identified a sixth person involved, aged between 30 and 58 years of age, for their participation in an alleged crime of fraud of more than 70,000 euros in a Casino in the capital of Lanzarote.
The investigation began as a result of a complaint filed by the company, which detected irregularities in the daily cash counts between May and June, where the amounts did not match those that should have been recorded.
Faced with these anomalies, the company commissioned a technical report that revealed a fault in one of the gaming machines, which allowed prize-winning tickets to be printed without control, with the error being discovered during a routine inspection of the equipment.
The employees involved, some of whom belonged to the same family, took advantage of the flaw to obtain large sums of money, employing friends and family members to cover up their activity and avoid suspicion.
However, the casino's surveillance cameras proved decisive for the investigation, allowing for the identification of all members and providing detailed knowledge of how the scam was carried out, including the division of the money on the premises.
After the group's arrest and once the police investigations were completed, those arrested were placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority.
