The Local Police of Arrecife has intercepted in less than a day two young drivers who were driving through the Lanzarotean capital despite having lost the totality of the points of their driving license. The agents of the Citizen Attention Operational Groups (GOAC) detected both infractions during routine surveillance and prevention tasks in terms of road safety.

The first of the incidents was recorded last March 18, around 9:00 p.m. A patrol stopped a vehicle that presented "external anomalies". Upon identifying the driver, a 24-year-old man, and cross-referencing his data with the DGT database, the agents confirmed that he did not have a valid license due to the total loss of points.

Just a few hours later, on March 19 at 6:10 p.m., the Local Police located a second vehicle on Iguazú Street. On this occasion, the officers already knew the 26-year-old driver beforehand, for having lost his right to drive. After intercepting him on Tenderete Street, his identification was proceeded with and it was confirmed that his license was still without validity.

Penal consequences

In both cases, the young people have remained in the capacity of investigated but not detained as alleged perpetrators of crimes against road safety. The police force reminds that this type of illicit acts are usually processed immediately through fast trials, with judicial summonses in very short periods where it is common for conviction sentences to be handed down in just a few hours after the appearance. Likewise, the Local Police of Arrecife warns that reoffending in this type of conduct only considerably aggravates the offender's penal situation, insisting that these actions pose a serious risk to the safety of all road users.
