Salvamento Marítimo is immersed in the search for a British passenger from the cruise ship Marella Explorer 2 who fell overboard last Thursday, November 27, in the northern area of Tenerife, 16.5 miles (30.5 kilometers) from Punta de Teno, as reported by the English newspaper The Guardian.
The British cruise company is collaborating with the authorities to find the body of the missing 76-year-old, who fell overboard when the ship was heading to La Gomera.
From the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Tenerife, a maritime and aerial operation was coordinated from the outset to find the British passenger. Specifically, they activated Helimier 201, Salvamar Menkalinan and Salvamar Mizar, as well as the Sasemar 103 aircraft.
The Civil Guard's Cuco helicopter and the Río Guadiato patrol boat from La Palma were also deployed.
A statement from Marella Cruises, the company sent a message of support to the family of the missing person. "Our thoughts are with the individual and their loved ones during this difficult time. Our dedicated care team is supporting the family, offering assistance and comfort. We are working closely with the local authorities and will continue to offer all possible support."
