The Local Police of Arrecife has initiated a sanctioning file against the company that owns the circus installed next to the Vía Medular, in the capital of Lanzarote. The visual inspection by local agents, alerted by residents due to bad odors, confirmed the existence of discharges of sewage into the subsoil. Those responsible for this circus, a company with its registered office in Telde (Gran Canaria), opened a large trench on this plot and evacuate the wastewater from their caravans and facilities into this well.
In the area, next to the Vía Medular and the Las Salinas neighborhood, the city of Arrecife has an extensive sanitation network. Contrary to regulations, the circus company deployed a network of pipes for its sewage which are dumped into the subsoil of the plot where they are installed.
The inspection by Local Police agents confirmed - according to the infraction report opened - that this circus violates the Canary Islands Waste Law in three sections, specifically articles 38.2 C., 38 2.d, and 38.2.e, which specify "the uncontrolled abandonment, discharge, or disposal of toxic and dangerous waste, the uncontrolled abandonment, discharge, or disposal of waste that due to its volume or danger poses serious damage to natural resources".
The installation of this circus, on a privately owned plot, is located in the vicinity of the central building of the Courts in the capital of Lanzarote.
Given the seriousness of these discharges, which could be repeated offenses, the Arrecife City Council, through the Local Police, will communicate it to Seprona (Nature Protection Service of the Civil Guard) for the possible criminal liability of the perpetrator/s, in addition to the administrative sanctions to be imposed by the Department of Infractions and Sanctions of the Arrecife City Council.
