Agents of the National Police have arrested in Maspalomas a British citizen for whom there was an International Arrest and Extradition Warrant (OIDE), issued by the judicial authorities of the United Kingdom, for his alleged involvement in eight sex offenses committed against minors in that country.
According to the investigation, the now arrested individual had been previously arrested in the United Kingdom for these acts and subsequently released on bail. However, he left the country and failed to appear before the judicial authority when required, which is why an International Arrest and Extradition Warrant was issued when his whereabouts were unknown.
The investigations began after investigators became aware that the wanted person might be residing in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. Agents from the Crimes Against Persons Group of the Specialized and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) of the Local Brigade of Judicial Police of the Maspalomas Police Station verified the validity of the international requisition through the central services of the General Directorate of Police and launched a discreet police operation to locate him.
As a result of the investigation, the agents located the wanted person in the vicinity of a holiday rental home in the municipality, where he was arrested without incident. He was subsequently transferred to the premises of the Local Brigade of Judicial Police of Maspalomas for the processing of the corresponding proceedings.
The arrested individual was placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, who ordered his provisional imprisonment pending the processing of the extradition procedure requested by the United Kingdom authorities.
With this action, the National Police reaffirms its commitment to international police and judicial cooperation, an essential tool for the location and arrest of individuals wanted by other countries, preventing Spain from being used as a refuge by those who try to evade the action of Justice.
