Agents of the Operational Group for Citizen Attention (GOAC) of the Local Police of Arrecife arrested on Thursday morning a 50-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of disobedience and resistance to law enforcement officers, after he attempted to flee during a police intervention.

The events occurred when a patrol observed a vehicle whose driver raised the agents' suspicions upon perceiving a strong odor compatible with narcotic substances coming from inside the car.

According to the Local Police, the agents signaled him to stop, although the driver initially ignored the request and continued driving for several meters before stopping the vehicle.

Once parked, and when the agents requested his personal documents, the man fled on foot. The police immediately initiated a pursuit that concluded about 50 meters further on, where they managed to intercept him.

During the operation, the individual showed strong active resistance, refusing to cooperate and hindering police work until he could finally be subdued.

In the subsequent superficial search, the agents located several bags with narcotic substances, which were seized. Likewise, the corresponding report for drug possession was drawn up.

In addition, the driver was administratively fined after testing positive for drug detection.

The detainee was transferred to police facilities for the instruction of the corresponding proceedings and subsequently placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.

The Local Police of Arrecife emphasizes that it maintains its commitment to the fight against the petty sale and distribution of narcotic substances, especially in areas where these types of activities are more frequent, with the aim of hindering access and preventing them from easily reaching the municipality's youth.
