The Arrecife City Council informs, through the Department of Senior Citizens directed by Victoria Sande, that the Senior Citizens Center will remain closed until further notice. On Sunday afternoon, a fire occurred, allegedly caused by a short circuit in the building's electrical panel, pending the final reports from the fire department and the National Police.
The Mayor of Arrecife, Eva de Anta, and the Councilor for Social Services, Victoria Sande, immediately appeared at the building after notifying the Fire Consortium and the Local Police.
"The important thing is that there are no personal injuries to regret," says the mayor, "but the center must remain closed to be inspected this Monday by an expert and determine the cause of the short circuit. Afterwards, it will be the Government of the Canary Islands who will determine its reopening."
Eva de Anta contacted the general director of Senior Citizens' centers to inform her of the situation. For her part, Victoria Sande "regrets the closure, but reminds residents that the safety of people comes first, so the building will open when it is in perfect condition."
