Several beaches in northern Lanzarote have registered this Tuesday the arrival of numerous Portuguese man-o'-wars, according to what the Security and Emergency Consortium of the island has reported.

Specifically, these marine organisms have been located in areas of the Órzola coast and on La Cantería beach, where their presence has been warned about to avoid incidents with bathers and people walking along the shore.

From the Consortium, they remind that the Portuguese man o' war can cause painful stings, so it is recommended not to touch them or approach them, even when they appear stranded on the sand.

Given this situation, the population is requested to exercise extreme caution on the beaches in the north of the island and to follow at all times the instructions of the emergency services and of those responsible for coastal surveillance.
