13 teenagers identified for the acts of vandalism on Halloween in Costa Teguise

The Civil Guard of the Main Post of Costa Teguise, in Lanzarote, has identified a group of 13 adolescents –aged between 15 and 18 years old– who allegedly committed a series of damages, public disorders and injuries during the night of last October 31 on the streets of the town of Costa Teguise.

Supposedly this group of adolescents, who wore masks related to the aforementioned festivity –a fact that complicated their identification and location–, "caused numerous damages on public roads for approximately one hour, especially with the throwing of stones at the users of the restaurant terrace, among other damages, and also causing one of them injuries to the head of another person through the use of a baseball bat, the victim requiring medical attention and several stitches in the wound".

That night, according to the Benemérita, they received "only one call in the COS (Operations Center of Services) room for a breakage of rearview mirrors of vehicles that was being committed by a person, but did not give precise data about the place and later did not respond to calls from COS agents to expand the information".

It was during the morning of the 1st of this month when different people informed the Civil Guard of the events that occurred that morning, through the presentation of the corresponding written complaints at the premises of the Main Post of Costa Teguise.

Identification investigations

Through the information provided by the complainants and the subsequent investigations carried out by the agents of the Citizen Service Area, based on the review of the security cameras of several establishments as well as numerous interviews with potential witnesses and teaching and management staff of several educational centers in the municipality of Teguise, the Civil Guard identified between November 7 and 10 the aforementioned minors and two adults, all of Spanish nationality and residents on the island.

The 13 alleged perpetrators have been placed at the disposal of the corresponding Court, on guard duty, of the town of Arrecife for crimes of damage and public disorder as investigated, one of them - 16 years of age - also arrested for a crime of injury.
