Visitors at the 'Purple' exhibition by the painter Yolanda Corujo

The painter Yolanda Corujo inaugurated this Thursday her exhibition 'Púrpura', at the Pancho Lasso Art School in Arrecife. She has been dedicated to making pictorial works for about 15 years and her favorite technique has always been oil. Until she discovered that with the pigment created by the parasite that nests in the prickly pear known to all as the 'Cochinilla', you can create an infinite palette of colors, something that Yolanda totally fell in love with.

Yolanda took her drafting studies at said center, always feeling admiration for all those courses related to the "Canarian Culture", as she commented at the inauguration. Although she has been painting for years, she had not decided to exhibit, doing so now with great enthusiasm in the center where her first strokes began. She was very excited about this new project and continue creating works that start from the ink created with the cochineal pigment.

Despite the nerves of the moment, she thanked everyone for their trust and support, to all the people who accompanied her on such a special day and thus be able to continue highlighting the importance and conservation of the Lanzarote landscape.

She explained in great detail how to get the wide range of colors, using mordants to fix the color in the pictorial works and adding color turners. In addition, the acids are responsible for giving the purple and violet tones, the alkaline reds and oranges etc.

The exhibition can be visited until March 1, in the morning and afternoon hours at the Pancho Lasso Art School.
