The Yaiza Town Hall has invited the people of the island and tourists to enjoy the play Killing Jesus, a man for the nation. This play, written and directed by Salvador Leal, is a spectacle of acting, characterization, lighting and special effects with the participation of people from the municipality of Yaiza and Lanzarote.
In addition, it will have original live music, performed by the Madrid band Tarambana Band; it will be next Wednesday, March 27, at 8:15 p.m., with free admission to the Plaza de la Alameda in Yaiza, where more than a thousand delighted spectators already attended its premiere last year with the ambitious creative proposal.
The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, the Councilor for Culture, Daniel Medina, the theater director Salvador Leal and the producer Germán Barrios appeared this Monday at a press conference to provide details about the great cultural event of Holy Week in Lanzarote and how the theatrical movement in Yaiza has been developed from the play Yaiza Historical City presented in 2021.
Regarding what the public will find in Killing Jesus, Salvador Leal explained that "it is an evidently universal plot, which we touch from a more social and political than religious point of view, without questioning either the faith or the figure of Jesus, but seen from a group of people who want to change the society of that moment." And the presentation act had a surprise because the actors César Rijo (Judas) and Ruyman Bautista (Caiaphas) participated characterized with a small staging inviting to the function of Killing Jesus.
The play is promoted by the Yaiza Town Hall and produced by the Lanzarote company Trama2 with notable participation of actors from Yaiza who are part of different groups in the municipality. "Theater in Yaiza is a permanent workshop that has even led to the creation of the Enganchateatro company with our people who are getting experience on the boards. Through theater we have also interpreted our history and heritage, facilitating knowledge to young and old in a much more entertaining way and without losing investigative rigor," said Óscar Noda.
Germán Barrios reviewed the production process of the play, stating that "this year there will be some novelties in the scenography and decorations and in special effects. Killing Jesus is a professional show that the public of Lanzarote can enjoy thanks to the commitment of the Yaiza Town Hall, to whom, of course, we thank for the trust in the creative team of Trama2".
The mayor of Yaiza concluded his speech by pointing out that "the sensitivity of art contributes to creating well-being and this is how it must be transmitted to the citizens and to some public representatives who still believe that creation is a matter of crumbs, ignoring the impact of the cultural industry on education and on the gross domestic product." The performing arts are in luck in Yaiza, and what better way to celebrate it next March 27 with a show that coincides with World Theater Day.
