The first visitors who were this Friday inside the volcanic caldera located in the surroundings of Plaza de Los Remedios in Yaiza, exploded with amazement and left pleasantly surprised by the magnitude and aesthetics of the 400-square-meter work that represents the birth of Jesus, with the Nativity scene drawing on the interpretation of landscapes and traditions of the municipality of Yaiza and different geographical points of Lanzarote. The creators of the Yaiza Nativity scene, and to whom all credit for its design and construction is due, are municipal workers Gabino Cabrera, Pancho Ortiz, Orlando Caraballo, and Aridane Cabrera.
Before inaugurating the Nativity scene, on behalf of the residents of Yaiza and the City Council itself, the mayor, Óscar Noda, praised and thanked the work of the four southern artisans, highlighting their "creative ingenuity in offering us this marvelous work, full of spectacular details, which will surely be remembered as one of the best nativity scenes we have ever seen on and off Lanzarote."The Nativity scene, the mayor pointed out, "offers us an immersive visit that surprises and demands greater care from everyone. We invite the people of Lanzarote to visit and care for the portal." Óscar Noda also expressed his gratitude to the municipal workers, electricians, shovel operators, masons, and drivers, who collaborated in the construction of the Nativity scene, as well as a heartfelt remembrance of the late Nativity scene artist Tito Viera, a precursor to the Yaiza Nativity tradition which is nearly 40 years old, and Guelo Viñoly, a carpenter for the City Council who passed away this year and crafted the miniature houses and buildings for the manger.
Before the inaugural act of the Nativity scene, blessed by parish priest Jonathan Almeida, the public arrived at the esplanade drawn by the music of the Yaiza Easter Ranch, which had just performed at the choir gathering held in the church.
In the center of the Belén volcanic caldera, Playa Blanca, Salinas de Janubio, and the city of Arrecife are represented. Around this beautiful artisanal composition, we find the visitor guide path, while on the slopes of the volcanic cone we can appreciate varied places in Lanzarote and the spectacular eruptive simulation in Timanfaya, animated every five minutes by a column of gas, fire, and lava emissions, lights, sound, and special effects. One of the novelties that caught the attention of the Belén was the design of an enormous waterfall.
