The municipality of Yaiza, in the south of Lanzarote, dressed up in celebration and fervor to commemorate with great solemnity the festivity of its patron saint, Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios. The day, filled with deep devotion and popular roots, brought together numerous faithful, residents of the town and visitors from various parts of the island.
At 7:00 p.m., the centuries-old doors of the parish church, an architectural jewel of the 17th century, were opened to welcome a crowd that completely filled the permitted capacity of the temple, while many others followed the ceremony from outside, next to the entrance doors, in a testimony of faith and Marian love.
The Solemn Eucharist was presided over by Leonardo Graterol, parish priest of the municipality of Tías, and concelebrated by the priests Jonathan Almeida, parish priest of Yaiza, Juan Carlo Medina, parish priest of Arrecife, and Francisco José García, parish priest of San Bartolomé and Tinajo.
The liturgical chants were performed by the Vocal Group of Yaiza, under the direction of Professor Nuvi Tavio, whose interpretation elevated the spirit of the assembly. The entrance song Heme aquí, by the Roman priest and composer Marco Frisina, the Gloria, by Francisco Palazón, and, in the Communion, Te seguiré Señor were sung. The celebration culminated with the hymn Virgen de Los Remedios, a devotional piece dedicated to the patron saint of Yaiza, composed by a member of the Yaiza Parish Choir.
After the Liturgy, the image of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios was taken in solemn procession through the main streets of the town, accompanied by the celebrating priests, the authorities and a large crowd of parishioners. The processional cortege was accompanied by the harmonious chords of the Municipal Music Band of Yaiza, directed by Professor Giovanni Noda, which filled the route with solemnity and emotion.
Upon returning to the temple, the image of the Virgin was received with cheers, applause and a palpable collective emotion that testified to the deep love that the people of Yaiza profess to their Patron Saint.
The festivity of Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios is consolidated, one more year, as a central act in the spiritual and cultural life of the municipality, where tradition, faith and community intertwine in a sincere tribute to the Queen and Lady of Yaiza.
