Lanzarote has, since this year, the first children's-youth carnival group named Yaiza Carnavalea. It is a group that is born out of the demand for many years from children who want to participate in the carnival, whether dancing or playing percussion in a batucada.
According to its president and director, Ruymán Medina, the objective "is to bring performing arts closer to children, to know carnival from the inside as a symbol of identity and culture of the Canarian people". With this, it is intended "to create a new quarry and for carnival to never stop shining".
The children's float accepts boys and girls from anywhere in Lanzarote aged between 7 and 18 years old. The choreography is directed by Ruymán Medina and the costumes will be designed by the Lanzarote designer Manuel Camejo.
Regarding the musical part of the players (batucada), they are still in the process of selecting the professor.
Three days before announcing the lineup with this new project, Medina assures that "we have had a great demand from boys and girls to sign up". This figure reaches 35 young people registered so far.
