The festivity of Nuestra Señora del Carmen revives every year for the residents of the Valterra fishing district the memory of those who have left, many of them sailors who lost their lives at sea. On this day they share the Eucharist and the procession through the streets of the fishing district with the Patron Saint of sailors.

At 7:30 p.m. the solemn Eucharist began, presided over by the Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of the Canary Islands, Cristóbal Hernández, assisted by the parish priest of Valterra, Clemente López. The songs were enlivened by the San Francisco Javier Choir directed by Lizardo, with the participation of the parishioners who, once again, came to support Nuestra Señora del Carmen.

After the Eucharist, the procession began in which, on this occasion, the image was carried on the shoulders by volunteer porters, touring each and every one of the streets of the neighborhood, opening the processional cortege the Music Band La Unión Musical de Lanzarote, directed by Professor Pepe Artiles.

Next, followed the image of Nuestra Señora del Carmen and next to her the parish priest Clemente López, the island and municipal authorities and the parishioners, who throughout the tour complimented the Virgin.

Upon returning to the church, the members of the murga Los Simplones were waiting for her and this year under the direction of the new musical director Sergio González they performed a song dedicated to the image, ending with fireworks filling the Valterra fishing district with color. The final touch to the festivity was put by the members of the Coro Iris del Mar inside the church with their songs dedicated to the Virgin Marinera.
