“Let the San Genaro Festivities begin. This is for you, Melquiades!”. In this way Ainhoa Sánchez, Saray de León, Yelena González and Rubén Serrano concluded last night in Tinasoria “more than a proclamation, a great tribute”, as they pointed out from the beginning, in honor of the figure of Melquiades García Montelongo, who was the true neighborhood driving force of this district of Arrecife and the mastermind of its patron saint festivities.
Organized by the Festivities Commission with the collaboration of this department, headed in the City Council of the Lanzarote capital by the deputy mayor of the city, Echedey Eugenio, the event held at the Estrella Machín Sports Court also featured the participation of Censa Saavedra, who presented various gifts made by neighborhood residents to a representation of the honoree's family; and also included the screening of a video dedicated to his memory.
“Emotional and beautiful event”
“Melquiades is part of the history and progress of Tinasoria. Thanks to the family of Melquiades García Montelongo for their presence, to the Festivities Commission for offering us this emotional and beautiful event, and to the public for supporting it with their attendance,” said Echedey Eugenio, who highlighted “Melquiades' commitment, work, and dedication” to this neighborhood. “Now, the best way to prolong this tribute will be to enjoy these festivities in honor of San Genaro, by enjoying them and participating in their events,” he stressed.
The start of the Tinasoria Festivities featured a parade led by the comparsa Los Cumbacheros, and after the proclamation, a dance was held, enlivened by the orchestra Lanzarote Swing. For today, Sunday, starting at 7 PM, the performance of the Atlántico Dance Studio Dance School is scheduled, followed by performances by the parrandas Pal Porrón and El Golpito. All events at the Estrella Machín Sports Court.
