This Thursday, October 10, at 7:00 p.m., the three new exhibition projects organized by the Culture area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, presided over by Oswaldo Betancort, will be inaugurated at El Almacén, as part of its plastic arts program for the last quarter of the year. They can be visited until January 18, 2025.
These are the exhibitions (Post) Naturalis. An interspecies look at the cabinet of curiosities by the artist Cristina Déniz from Gran Canaria, curated by Blanca de la Torre; the exhibition _raya_ by the artist Ángel Padrón from El Hierro, curated by Dalia de la Rosa; and the artistic installation A portion of chaos by the Argentine creator María Arreb.
The Minister of Culture, Jesús Machín Tavío, stated that "from the Cabildo we want to continue betting on the promotion of creativity and criticism in the plastic arts, consolidating spaces such as El Almacén as an island reference for contemporary artistic reflection." He also added that "these three new exhibitions allow us to make visible discourses that not only enrich the cultural landscape, but also promote an active dialogue about our relationship with the environment, the territory and memory."
"(Post)Naturalis. An interspecies look at the cabinet of curiosities"
In this exhibition, located in the Cube room of the CIC El Almacén, the artist Cristina Déniz from Gran Canaria, together with the curator Blanca de la Torre, takes the idea of the "cabinet of curiosities" or "chambers of wonders" as an epistemological and museological reference to propose a critical approach on how our capitalist society relates to Nature, denouncing the overexploitation and annihilation of the ecosystems that surround us, as well as our own distancing and ignorance of natural environments.
In the words of the artist Cristina Déniz "in this project I question the relationship of the human being with the natural environment and propose observation and interconnection protocols that suggest new links or forms of coexistence."
Likewise, the curator of the exhibition, Blanca de la Torre, wanted to highlight that "this exhibition proposes a museographic reformulation that questions the Western, white and patriarchal knowledge of hegemonic power, articulating an artistic discourse made with bone pieces of animals, ashes and vegetables burned by fire.
"_raya_"
The Aljibe room hosts this exhibition by the artist Ángel Padrón, curated by Dalia de la Rosa, in the form of several installation works that allow him to articulate a unique and committed artistic discourse about the territory he inhabits and from which he develops his thinking, in the form of landscapes built in which human intervention and natural creation are confused.
The artist from El Hierro stressed that "these artistic installations are characterized by the accumulation of elements that speak of the habitat and the landscape in the form of a superposition of pictorial planes, which allow me to speculate on the creative processes linked to architecture and artistic memory."
In the words of the curator of the exhibition, Dalia de la Rosa "this project is a performative exercise where landscapes, architectures and heterogeneous, incalculable and asymmetrical images overlap."
"A portion of chaos"
In the Salita of El Almacén the creator María Arreb proposes a plastic installation using collage as an artistic tool and with the literary intention arising from searching, choosing, cutting, pasting and gathering in an emotional chaos in the form of a visual landscape in which many stories of each of the pieces transit.
In this sense, the Argentine artist has commented that she hopes that "in this artistic installation there will be connections between images, language, memory, matter, language and time, from where to create new and significant readings by the public, in the form of poetic and emotional experiences."
