Thousands of people enjoy the first day of the Wine Festival

An activity that is part of the Lanzarote Wine Run

Wine Run Wine Festival 2024

As a tribute to the transcendental role that the Lanzarote wine sector has played for centuries as responsible for shaping one of the most idyllic landscapes on the planet - that of La Geria - and as a global model of what sustainable economic development means, the Wine Festival framed in the XII Lanzarote Wine Run started this Saturday in Uga.

A Festival in which, since its first day, thousands of people have participated and have been able to enjoy the wide variety of magnificent wines served by the wineries of the Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) Lanzarote and organized - like the Wine Race - by the Lanzarote Council, Yaiza City Council and Regulatory Council.

Chickpeas and goat meat

In addition to a wide representation of the 17 wineries participating in the Lanzarote Wine Run, the presence at the Festival stands out - which will continue throughout this Sunday coinciding with the celebration of the Wine Race - of the stand installed by the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers (CACT) where you can taste chickpeas and goat meat as a sample of the excellent products offered by the Lanzarote primary sector.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, has thanked "the involvement of the Lanzarote and Graciosa society in the celebration of this event that enhances the tremendous value of what the wine sector brings to this Island".

In this sense, the Councilor for Landscape and Food Sovereignty, Samuel Martín, underlines "the extraordinary response that citizens have given to both this Festival and the Wine Race, with which we have achieved our objective of raising awareness about the importance of preserving a space as special as La Geria".

For his part, the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, points out that "the success of this event highlights the value of collaboration between public institutions" and highlights the celebration of the Wine Run Kids "as a way to raise awareness among the little ones about the importance of the primary sector"; Similarly, the president of the Regulatory Council, Jorge Rodríguez, emphasizes his "satisfaction with the recovery of this event due to its enormous capacity to raise awareness among citizens of the fundamental role that our sector has for the island".

Concerts and play center

The reopening of the Wine Festival will take place from 10.30 am this Sunday after the arrival of the first participants in the Wine Race. Half an hour later, the play center installed for the enjoyment of children will open. The first concert, starring Inerxia, will begin at 11.30 am and at 2 pm the Salvapantallas concert will begin.

Framed in the project 'Save La Geria', the XII Lanzarote Wine Run has the CACT as its main sponsor, directed by the island councilor Ángel Vázquez, and with the collaboration of the Canarian Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA), directed by Luis Arráez. The Department of Social Welfare and Inclusion of the Cabildo de Lanzarote also participates, directed by Councilor Marci Acuña, through the Accessibility and Inclusion Strategy; as well as Lanzarote and Chinijo Archipelago World Geopark.
