Of the more than 90 musicians integrated in the Youth Orchestra of the Canary Islands (JOCAN), 10 have been selected to participate in the second meeting of musicians of this formation -created by the Government of the Canary Islands- for this tour of concerts through the eight islands. On this occasion, they set up their headquarters on the island of La Graciosa, where they carried out the appropriate rehearsals and joint preparatory training activities. From there they also began their journey with an interesting and enjoyable chamber repertoire of the 20th century, under the musical direction of Rubén Gimeno. All concerts are free for the public until full capacity.
The first concert was held on Friday night in the hall of the Ignacio Aldecoa school in Caleta de Sebo, on the island of La Graciosa. On Saturday morning they moved to the island of Lanzarote, where at 9:00 p.m. they held the second concert in the Cueva de los Verdes. Presided over by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, María Teresa Lorenzo, the concert began with Variations for String Orchestra by the Canarian Enrique Guimerá, followed by Ocho por Radio by Silvestre Revuelta and ending with Historia del Soldado by Igor Stravinsky, under the direction of Rubén Gimeno, principal conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica del Vallés. He also served as artistic director of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Galicia for six years.
The audience enjoyed a magnificent concert, where the good work of the young musicians was rewarded with prolonged applause. At the end of the concert, María Teresa Lorenzo shared impressions with the director, Rubén Gimeno, and also approached the musicians to congratulate them on their performance and take photos with them.
