The Cabildo of Lanzarote has presented this Tuesday a new edition of the Summer Traveling Cinema, an initiative organized by the Tenique Cultural association and developed in collaboration with the seven municipalities of the island, which will bring family cinema outdoors to all corners of the island territory.
The activity, free and open to the public, will be offered in double sessions on Thursdays and Fridays at 9:00 PM. This project seeks to recover the simple and close experience of old summer cinemas: gathering around a screen under the stars, sharing in community, and enjoying summer nights with popcorn, which will be distributed free of charge to attendees.
The Plenary Hall of the Institution hosted the official presentation of the program this Tuesday the 30th, an event attended by the Minister of Culture of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jesús Machín Tavío, the president of Tenique Cultural, Javier Fuentes Feo, and representatives from the Culture and Youth departments of different municipalities on the island.
During the press meeting, Machín pointed out that "it is the only cultural project of the Cabildo that actively involves the seven municipalities of the island and La Graciosa," thanking the councilors from each municipality for the effort made to reconcile interests, balances, and particularities. He also highlighted "the great personal satisfaction of seeing entire families enjoy the Traveling Cinema in every town that hosts this initiative, and for managing to bring together moments of coexistence, enjoyment, and sharing away from mobile phones."
For his part, the president of the organizing association, Javier Fuentes Feo, emphasized "the importance of maintaining a local, decentralized cultural program of great interest, while thanking the crucial support of the island institution, the town councils for making this logistical and community deployment possible, and all those who love the seventh art, the main protagonists of this summer event."
Feo highlighted "the Cabildo's effort to give visibility to a civil society project that directly impacts the promotion and cultural development of the island, by supporting an initiative that encompasses communication, aesthetics, a quality project, and public resources aimed at not losing the ability to dialogue and think."
Great titles to enjoy in community
The 2026 programming has been selected seeking a balance between cinematic quality, enjoyment of the screenings, and cultural interest to foster a collective experience among families, friends, and people of different generations. Among the titles that will tour the geography of Lanzarote in the 2026 edition, great works recognized by the public stand out, such as “Back to the Future”, “Men in Black”, and “Persepolis”.
To enrich the experience and encourage citizen participation, all screenings will be preceded by a brief presentation to contextualize each work. Likewise, at the end of the film, a space for debate and discussion will be opened for all attendees who wish to share their impressions, thus reinforcing the sense of community and encounter that defines the project.
The journey of the 'Summer Traveling Cinema 2026' officially kicks off next July 9th in Arrecife and will continue itinerantly until August 21st, completing two screenings per municipality in Arrecife, Haría, San Bartolomé, Teguise, Yaiza, Tías, and Tinajo. All screenings will take place on Thursdays and Fridays and will begin at nine in the evening (9:00 PM).
