The 'San Genaro Festivities' that take place in the Tinasoria neighborhood celebrate this Tuesday the 'Day of the Elderly' with the performance of the famous singer from Gran Canaria, Pepe Benavente, starting at 10:00 p.m. on the 'Estrella Machín' sports court. In that same space, a children's painting workshop will take place from 6:30 p.m., as well as the 'Alegría' playbacks, starting at 8:00 p.m., and 'Repartiendo Ilusiones', from 9:00 p.m.
Organized by the Arrecife City Council, presided over by Yonathan de León Machín, through the Department of Festivities, directed by Echedey Eugenio Felipe, the Festivities began last Sunday the 16th with the reading of the proclamation by Antonio Leal, which was followed by the performance by the musical group of female voices 'Calicanto'.
Previously, Yonathan de León Machín requested a respectful minute of silence in memory of the former mayor of Arrecife, José María Espino González, who passed away last Thursday, for which the City Council decreed three days of official mourning. At the conclusion, the public, standing, gave a strong applause.
During his three terms as mayor of Arrecife, José María Espino González created the Tinasoria neighborhood, promoting together with the Government the creation of social housing, a fact that Antonio Leal alluded to precisely in his reading of the proclamation.
Proclamation
After thanking the Tinasoria Neighborhood Association and "especially its president" Melquiades García "for inviting me to be the proclaimer", Antonio Leal spoke of his arrival in Tinasoria with his family "more than 20 years ago" and of the origins of the neighborhood "formed initially by official protection housing", known as "Los Pitufos", and which had "the first socio-cultural center in Arrecife, which served as a model for the rest of the centers in the municipality".
Antonio Leal took a tour of the history of Tinasoria, alluding to three key figures in the creation and development of the neighborhood, such as the capital mayors, Antonio Cabrera and the aforementioned José María Espino, both sadly deceased, as well as the first president of the Tinasoria Neighborhood Association, "the very beloved and missed" Estrella Machín, "an enthusiastic, hardworking woman, excited about her neighborhood and its people", he said.
"The City Council, which belongs to everyone, must make a great effort to improve the quality of life of citizens. Children, young people and the elderly must have spaces near their homes that allow their lives to be more pleasant. There are many improvements and investments that Tinasoria still needs, because its residents deserve it, as do the residents of the rest of the neighborhoods of Arrecife", the proclaimer claimed.
The 'San Genaro Festivities' of Tinasoria experienced their second day this Monday, the 18th, with the inauguration of the tattoo exhibition in the Socio-Cultural Center, the celebration of the children's percussion workshop and the musical performance by the 'Pitera', starting at 9:00 p.m. on the 'Estrella Machín' court.
