The Sculpture of Fertility, the artistic ensemble created by César Manrique from water tanks and other elements of disused ships, already stands on the Peña de Tajaste, in the Farmer's House Museum, after the assembly of the reproduction of the work was completed this morning. As will be recalled, the original structure was declared "unrecoverable" after the windstorm that knocked it down in April of last year.
Workers from the Tourist Centers and specialized companies have installed the second module of the work today, which weighs six and a half tons. Only some aesthetic details remain to be outlined, which will be done from today, with the work already assembled.
"We are returning to Lanzarote one of its main hallmarks and one of the most recognizable and recognized works of art by César Manrique," said a visibly satisfied counselor of the Entity, Ángel Vázquez, who wanted to thank "the enthusiasm and sensitivity of the people and entities that have intervened to make this project a reality in record time."
Permanently subjected to weather conditions, the installation and assembly of the artistic ensemble has proceeded without incidents.
Knocked down by the wind
As will be recalled, the windstorm that hit the island last April caused significant damage to the Sculpture of Fertility, the sculptural ensemble created by César Manrique from water tanks and other elements of disused ships.
The sculpture, which rises up to 15 meters high on the Peña de Tajaste, in the Farmer's House Museum, is the tribute of the great artist from Lanzarote to the men and women of the island's countryside.
