Arrecife will celebrate Canary Islands Day this year with a focus on urban music and the traditions of the Archipelago. The City Council of the capital will feature a performance by the Tenerife rapper Bejo, one of the most recognized names in the Canarian and national music scene, as part of the events planned for the regional holiday.
The program designed for Canary Islands Day will also include various activities related to the traditional sports and games of the Archipelago. Among these, a demonstration and exhibition of Canarian wrestling by federated wrestlers from Lanzarote, an exhibition game of Canarian ball with players from federated clubs on the island, and an exhibition with a participatory workshop on the Canarian stick game led by masters specialized in this traditional discipline stand out.
About Bejo
A native of Tenerife, Bejo began his musical career at a very young age and achieved great popularity with the group Locoplaya, also composed of Don Patricio and Uge. He later consolidated a solo career marked by lyrics full of irony, humor, and everyday references, becoming one of the most unique voices in the Spanish urban scene.
His career has also been linked to cinema and artistic creation. In 2012, he was nominated for the Goya Award for Best Original Song for the track “Nuestra playa eres tú,” included in the soundtrack of the film Maktub.
