The Villa de Teguise hosted this Wednesday night, in the emblematic Plaza de Los Leones, the twinning ceremony between two of the most representative ethnographic expressions of the cultural heritage of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands, the Rancho de Pascuas of Teguise and Los Diabletes. The event was part of the Sonidos de Identidad project, an initiative that seeks to preserve, promote, and enhance the musical and ritual heritage of the municipality and the island
The event, which drew a large crowd, was attended by local and regional authorities, including the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, the councilor for Culture of the City Council, Andoni Machín, the councilor for Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, Migdalia Machín, and the councilor for Culture of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jesús Machín, as well as representatives from the Cabildo and SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, whose support has been fundamental to the development of this initiative.
During her speech, Mayor Olivia Duque highlighted the importance of recognizing those who dedicate generations to maintaining traditions, stating that "this act constitutes a very special moment for our municipality. Recognizing the Rancho de Pascuas and Los Diabletes is much more than an institutional gesture; it is a sincere tribute of gratitude and pride to those who have worked for years to keep alive the traditions that define Teguise's identity and form our cultural legacy."For his part, the Councilor for Culture, Andoni Machín, highlighted that "the meeting between the Rancho de Pascuas and Los Diabletes strengthens the ties between our cultural associations, values the continuity of our traditions and the transmission of knowledge from generation to generation, preserves our roots and projects the richness of Teguise's culture and identity externally, fostering the participation of residents and visitors in the cultural life of the municipality".
The Teguise City Council wishes to congratulate both associations for their tireless work in preserving cultural heritage and express its pride in having citizens and groups that make it possible for these traditions to remain alive. Likewise, it thanks the involvement of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, whose support has been key for projects like this to be consolidated and strengthen the cultural identity of the municipality.
The event included an artistic and musical performance that fused tradition, innovation, and contemporary staging, honoring the cultural memory of Teguise and consolidating the twinning between these two emblematic expressions.
With this type of initiative, the Teguise City Council "reaffirms its commitment to promoting, protecting, and disseminating the cultural legacy of its people and associations, ensuring that our traditions continue to be a collective pride and a cultural benchmark for all of the Canary Islands".
