The Arrecife Carnival 2025 is already underway. On Friday night, the Agramar Venue hosted the long-awaited inaugural proclamation, a massive event in which the true protagonists were the groups that, year after year, keep the essence of this festival alive.
With this act, the Agramar Venue is consolidated, for the second consecutive year, as the epicenter of the Arrecife Carnival, whose program has been prepared by the Department of Festivities, directed by the Deputy Mayor, Echedey Eugenio.
The event began with the Announcing Parade, which toured the streets of the city to the rhythm of the Batucada Villa Pipol, accompanied by representatives of all the Carnival groups (adult and children's murgas, batucadas, comparsas, representatives of traditional carnival, drag queens, transvestites and float makers).
Upon arrival at the venue, the Lanzarote singer Iballa González performed "Mi Eterno Carnaval", an emotional song composed by Belén Doreste 'LAJALADA' for the occasion, while the different groups took the stage.
For the first time in the history of the Arrecife Carnival, the proclamation has been shared by the seven groups that give shape to this celebration. The first to speak was the representative of the Traditional Carnival, paying tribute to the masks, improvised costumes and legendary characters such as Charlot, the Viejita del Perejil and the Diabletes, recalling that Carnival is memory and tradition.
Next, the spokesperson for the adult murgas referred to their unmistakable irreverence, highlighting the role of social criticism and satire in their lyrics, defending freedom of expression as the essence of the festival.
For their part, the children's murgas spoke of their role as representatives of the future of Carnival, emphasizing how the children learn from a young age the importance of humor and creativity.
The batucadas highlighted the passion they transmit with their drums, the beat that makes the streets vibrate and that invites everyone to join the party; and the Comparsas, with their color and rhythm, highlighted the effort and dedication behind each choreography, transforming each parade into a spectacle.
The drags also spoke, reinventing the stage with their message of diversity and freedom, and claiming Carnival as a space where creativity knows no limits.
Finally, the float makers valued the silent but fundamental work of those who design and build the spectacular floats that dazzle in the parades.
The event culminated with the intervention of the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, and the deputy mayor and councilor for Festivities, Echedey Eugenio, who presented a recognition to each of the groups, reiterated their commitment to the carnival tradition of Arrecife, and invited the population to enjoy a carnival that this year is inspired by the "World of Fantasy".
