The reading of the proclamation by the Agrupación Folclórica Malpaís de la Corona began the San Juan Bautista 2023 festivities in Haría last Friday.
In an event held in the Plaza de Haría, the municipality hosted this tribute to its culture, traditions and folklore, which included an emotional speech by the members of the group, as well as a surprise performance by these artists.
Likewise, the acting mayor, Evelia García, thanked the Association for accepting this invitation, as well as "the invaluable contribution of its members during the last 45 years to preserve the culture and heritage of the north, becoming references in Lanzarote and throughout the Canary Islands and ambassadors of the folklore and customs of Haría".
From the Folkloric Association, they stated that when they received the invitation to be the announcers of these parties, "many feelings were mixed; on the one hand, the responsibility of being announcers of your parties and, on the other, the joy and pride of being able to do so".
Likewise, 'Malpaís de la Corona' reviewed the history of the folklore of Haría and its own trajectory as a group, explaining its origins, its music or its traditional clothing. These interventions were interspersed with several musical pieces that served to liven up the night for the more than 350 people who attended the beginning of the San Juan festivities.
Concert of 'Los Secretos' and other weekend events
After the completion of the proclamation, the public present was able to enjoy a memorable performance by the group 'Los Secretos', who sang their greatest hits in the Plaza de Haría to put an end to a magical first night of the San Juan festivities.
During the weekend, various activities were carried out, such as dance workshops for the elderly, a Soccer 7 tournament at the Ladislao Rodríguez Bonilla field, initiatives for boys and girls, the 'Gracias. 16th Anniversary' concert, a meeting of associations or the celebration of the Eucharist of Corpus Christi, among others.
