The capacity of the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz could not accommodate the large audience that gathered on Tuesday afternoon at the presentation of the book that Daniel Cabrera Panasco has dedicated to the memory of his father, entitled "Francisco Cabrera Matallana (1935-1943). 85 years later".

For the presentation, Daniel Cabrera had journalist Mario Alberto Perdomo as the presenter of the event and in charge of carrying out a dialogue with the author, who was telling some brushstrokes of the content of the book. Daniel Cabrera also shared a table with the prologuist, Sergio Millares Cantero.

The book, which consists of 151 pages, collects part of the journey carried out in the Peninsula, in the years 1935-1943, by Francisco Cabrera Matallana. A man who, after finishing high school, traveled to the capital of Spain to prepare for the Customs examinations and was trapped by the outbreak of the Civil War, 2,000 kilometers from his native island and his family.

Confined in a prisoner camp

At first, Francisco Cabrera Matallana avoided participating in the conflict as much as he could and was declared a fugitive by the rebels, but he was finally mobilized by the Republican side, until his confinement in the prisoner camp of Barbastro (Huesca), almost at the end of the war.

On the twentieth anniversary of the death of Francisco Cabrera Matallana, his son Daniel has decided to recover the story of that period of his life, which he practically omitted to his children. This small research adventure, the rescue of those years of life, has resulted in this book, which has moved Daniel, in order to prevent the terrible episode experienced by his father from falling into oblivion and also to pay tribute for having fulfilled his civic duty to defend the constitutional and legal order that was in force then, even putting his life at risk.

The author gratefully acknowledged the attendance to the event, which ended with the traditional book signing.
