This coming Thursday, February 6th, the third of the talks included in the conference cycle Memory of Thursdays 2025 will take place, organized by the Cabildo de Lanzarote through the Data Center and Digital Memory of Lanzarote, departments coordinated by the councilor Ascensión Toledo.

This new event will be a round table in which the Recent History of Photojournalism in Lanzarote will be discussed, and which will feature the presence of four of the most veteran and experienced photojournalists in the Lanzarote press, such as José Luis Carrasco, Pepe Vera, Dory Hernández and José María del Corral. The person in charge of moderating the debate will be the journalist Jaime Puig.

In the debate, part of the more than 191,000 reproductions on paper that make up the photographic archives of different media, including La Voz de Lanzarote (1985-2005), can be visualized and contemplated, and that the owners of these media have ceded to the Cabildo de Lanzarote for inclusion in Digital Memory of Lanzarote. These funds have been digitized in 2024 thanks to a subsidy granted to the Cabildo by the Ministry of Culture.

The collections of these three media not only document the evolution of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, but also reflect the essence of the social, cultural and political transformation of both islands in recent decades. They are a window to the past that allows us to explore decisive and everyday moments in our history, leaving an essential visual legacy to understand our reality.

Recent History of Photojournalism in Lanzarote not only aims to be a tribute and a celebration of the profession of photojournalism, but also wants to invite the public to reflect on its importance in the construction of the collective memory of an island in constant evolution.

The talk will take place next Thursday, February 6, at 7:00 p.m., in the José Saramago Room of the César Manrique Foundation, in La Plazuela de Arrecife. Admission is free until full capacity is reached.
