The Arrecife Day Center for the Elderly became on Thursday afternoon an authentic stage of joy, color, and fun with the celebration of the traditional Masquerade Ball, an activity organized by the Department of the Elderly of the Arrecife City Council, headed by Rosmen Quevedo, and framed within the Carnival program promoted by the Department of Festivities, coordinated by the deputy mayor, Echedey Eugenio.

From the early afternoon hours, the center's hall filled with original and creative costumes: prisoners and cowboys shared the floor with dancers, movie characters, themed groups, classic masqueraders, and a host of proposals that demonstrated the involvement and enthusiasm of the center's users. There were individual costumes and also group ones, all of them lovingly prepared for an event that has already become one of the most anticipated on the festive calendar.

The music of the duo Eclipse de Luna and the group Los Conejeros livened up the evening, managing to keep the dance floor full throughout the afternoon in a festive atmosphere marked by the desire to enjoy Carnival.

In addition to the presence of the municipal Corporation authorities, headed by the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León; the deputy mayor, Echedey Eugenio and the capital official in charge of the Elderly Area, Rosmen Quevedo, the event had broad institutional representation, among whom were the president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo; the general director of the Elderly Area of the autonomous Executive, Verónica Meseguer; the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, and the island councilor for the Elderly, Nori Machín

All of them were able to verify firsthand the excellent atmosphere that was experienced during the dance, sharing moments with the elders and highlighting the importance of promoting spaces for meeting and active leisure that encourage participation, socialization, and healthy aging.

The councilor for the Elderly, Rosmen Quevedo, highly valued the development of the day and stressed that “these types of initiatives are not only part of our traditions, but also contribute to the emotional well-being of our elders”.

For their part, from the Party Area, Echedey Eugenio, highlighted the relevance of integrating all groups into the Carnival program, making the Masquerade Ball a particularly significant event within the festivities.

The Mascaritas Dance thus proved once again that the Arrecife Carnival is a celebration for all ages, and that enthusiasm and the desire to have a good time know no age.
