The Diocese of the Canary Islands has decided to suspend acts of worship or piety outside the temples or on public roads typical of Lent and Holy Week.

This has been decreed by the bishop of the Diocese of the Canary Islands, Monsignor José Mazuelos Pérez, who stated in a statement that "taking into consideration the current pandemic situation caused by Covid-19 and the health measures adopted by the civil authorities to contain its spread," it has been decreed that the acts of worship typical of this time of Lent and Holy Week that are celebrated inside the temples comply with the provisions of the Bishopric at the conclusion of the confinement period, as well as the health regulations applicable at each moment.

Regarding acts of worship or piety outside the temples or on public roads, such as processions, Stations of the Cross, or other forms of religious manifestation, they will be suspended.

Finally, the bishop "exhorts the people of God to live with intensity and devotion the liturgical celebrations typical of this time."
