The Christmas spirit returns to Yaiza with more art and folklore

After a long weekend of activities, next Saturday, December 23, Santa Claus will visit Playa Blanca

Yaiza Christmas Market (3)

Yaiza has inaugurated some of the activities for Christmas such as the Christmas Market full of art and folklore. From Playa Blanca to Yaiza, in Uga and also in the town of Femés, this was the marathon itinerary of Christmas activities that revived the festive spirit in the south of Lanzarote during a long weekend that began on Thursday with the musical performance of the 'Acatife Cultural Association', in the Plaza del Carmen of Playa Blanca, and ended this Sunday with the recital of the Christmas ranches of Tinajo and Yaiza in the historic hermitage of San Marcial de Rubicón de Femés.

Undoubtedly, music was the main protagonist of the municipal agenda, because when it was not at the forefront, it always animated the Christmas gatherings that toured the different spaces of collective enjoyment of Yaiza.

Nearly forty voices and players from the 'Rubicón Folkloric Group' offered the traditional concert 'Singing at Christmas' on Friday, which once again filled the main hall of the Benito Pérez Armas House of Culture. The repertoire chosen by the group led by Roberto Gil was endearing, reinforced for this performance by virtuoso instrumentalists from Lanzarote.

The magic of the musical

Despite the strong wind on Saturday, families from the municipality gathered in the Uga tent attracted by the musical 'The Carousel of Wishes', a confluence of theater, dance, circus and music to tell a story in which the public reached out to Sam to find the lost angel of Christmas. Singers and actors in a magical atmosphere displayed their artistic skills on a night of illusion.

And with hardly any time to recharge, the Plaza de Los Remedios in Yaiza opened the Christmas market all day Sunday. Artisans, confectioners, merchants, charities and artistic groups exhibited and sold their products until eight in the afternoon, with notable participation of visitors who could also enjoy the folk groups La Gran Aldea and Gaida, invited within the Christmas Isleña 2023 program promoted by the Cabildo de Lanzarote.

Christmas Ranches

The Christmas ranches of Tinajo and Yaiza put the icing on the intense Christmas weekend in Femés. On Sunday, in the village hermitage, songs of adoration from a lifetime were played that brought young and old to their feet. The Yaiza City Council exalts the cultural work of the Christmas ranches and the different generations that sing and play incessantly to preserve this beautiful tradition that greets us every end of the year.

The Councilor for Culture of Yaiza, Daniel Medina, invites the people of Lanzarote to consult the municipal agenda, "which still has much to offer during the remainder of December and the entire month of January." Next Saturday, December 23, Santa Claus will visit Playa Blanca accompanied by children's characters in a meeting scheduled in the square at five in the afternoon.
