The restored Plaza de Las Palmas hosted this Saturday an emotional musical offering in honor of San Ginés, patron saint of Arrecife, in which Canarian roots and traditions were the main protagonists. The folk groups Coros y Danzas Arrecife, Tajaraste from Tenerife, and Maxorata from Fuerteventura provided music and feeling to an event that once again brought together numerous residents and visitors around the celebration of the patron saint festivities of the capital of Lanzarote.
The deputy mayor of the city and councilor for Festivities, Echedey Eugenio, thanked the participation of the three groups and highlighted their commitment to Canarian popular culture. "Keeping these traditions alive is fundamental to preserving the identity of Arrecife and for our festivities to continue to be a reflection of our roots," said Eugenio, who also highlighted "the involvement and affection with which the folk groups keep our intangible heritage alive and share it with all citizens."
The offering started from Cuatro Esquinas and proceeded along León y Castillo street - the Calle Real - with the folk groups performing folías, seguidillas, isas, sorondongos, and other Canarian airs and traditional dances of the Archipelago, culminating in a performance by each in front of the image of the Patron in the renovated Plaza de Las Palmas, before the main portico of the Church of San Ginés. The celebration was attended by members of the Arrecife Municipal Corporation and other institutional representatives.
