The capacity of the Buñuel Room was completely filled to attend the presentation of the book El Almacén de Manrique: 50 años, 50 voces, an event that took place on Tuesday night. On the 50th anniversary of this event, José Miguel Parrilla Curbelo, Mario Alberto Perdomo and Fernando Ruíz Gordillo have promoted this publishing project.
The authors explained the origin of their initiative and focused on what the opening of El Almacén and its cultural proposal meant in the 70s of the 20th century, in the context of late Francoism, the democratic transition, and the consolidation of freedoms in the 80s. At the end of the presentation, a colloquium took place with the attendees.
El Almacén de Manrique: 50 años, 50 voces brings together the testimonies of fifty people, twenty-five men and twenty-five women, who, in different ways, were linked to El Almacén between 1974 and 1988. Each text, of about 500 words, is headed by a single word.
It consists of a prologue by the three promoters of the initiative, and an epilogue by the writer Juan Cruz Ruiz which, in turn, consists of two pieces, one dated 1974 and the other in the current year. The book has been sponsored by J. Parrilla, SA, and Hotel Aloe Canteras.
The work will be on sale only at the El Puente Bookstore in Arrecife from this Wednesday, the 18th. The income obtained from the sale will be donated to the NGO Asociación de Familias Oncohematológicas de Lanzarote, AFOL.
The development of the event in the Buñuel Room of El Almacén had the collaboration of the Culture Area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
