The best of the week of December 18-24: cinema, humor, art, ballet, and lots of music

Three films, a book, Swan Lake, Dani Mateo, the opportunity to see the work of 33 artists from Lanzarote, corals, gospel, Drûpe, and an Easter ranch

The week includes two film proposals from Cine Club Lanzarote and another from Cine Juventud. The book El Puerto about Arrecife and its historical evolution is presented.

El Salinero hosts Swan Lake this Saturday and the major exhibition Lanzarote, Art and Guateque returns with works by 33 Lanzarote artists. Dani Mateo will also be on the island with his latest comedy show. 

In the music section, two choirs will sing, a Easter ranchera will be played, gospel, and the coastal rock band Drûpe.

CINEMA

 

  • Blue Sun Palace. Buñuel Cinema

This Thursday, Cine Buñuel is showing the second screening of the film Blue Sun Palace, the debut feature by Chinese-American director Constance Tsang. The story explores the feelings and motivations of a triangle of characters marked by desire, grief, and the search for a place in the world.

  • Wild Robot. Cine Juventud Lanzarote

Cine Juventud Lanzarote presents The Wild Robot, an animated film that combines science fiction, adventure, and survival, based on the successful book series of the same name by Peter Brown. It reflects on nature, identity, and artificial intelligence.

When: Thursday, December 18th at 8:00 PM. 

Where: Multicines Atlántida, room 4, Arrecife.

  • The Bait. Cine Club Lanzarote

Cine Club Lanzarote, with a new date this Saturday, recovers, in collaboration with the Lanzarote Negra Festival, El Cebo, one of the great classics of Spanish cinema and one of the most unsettling thrillers of its time.  

When: Saturday, December 20th at 7:00 PM. 

Where: El Almacén, Arrecife.

BOOKS

 

  • The Port

The book El Puerto is presented, a publication that stems from the exhibition held in 2023 with historian Elena Hernández, visual artist Darío Machín, and anthropologist Marianna Amorim—who, from their intertwined disciplines, managed to offer a renewed reading of Arrecife, its port, and its historical evolution.

PERFORMING ARTS

 

  • Swan Lake

The most spectacular ballet in classical dance, Swan Lake, arrives at the Víctor Fernández Gopar “El Salinero” Theater, brought by Ballets de Tenerife, under the artistic direction of Héctor Navarro. 

When: Saturday, December 20th at 8:00 PM. 

Where: Haría Municipal Library.

Ticket 10 euros.

 

 

EXHIBITIONS

 

  • Lanzarote, Art and Guateque

The second edition of Lanzarote, Arte y Guateque offers the best of current contemporary art in Lanzarote with works by 33 Lanzarote artists. It includes paintings, photographs, screen prints, sculptures, ceramics, collages, engravings, or prints that can be purchased.

When: Friday, December 19th at 7:00 PM, opening. Open until January 5th.

Where: Ermita de Tías.

HUMOR

 

  • Dani Mateo. Why don't you shut up?

Dani Mateo stands out for his acid humor and his work with monologues on "El Club de la Comedia" or by acting as a presenter, judge, or participant in other comedic events. 

When: Friday, December 20 at 8:00 PM.

Where: Jameos del Agua.

MUSIC

 

  • Archinech Easter Ranch 

The Pascua Archinech Ranch in Tinajo offers a concert at the Church of San Ginés in Arrecife on the occasion of the upcoming Christmas holidays.  

When: Thursday, December 18th at 8:00 PM.

  • San Ginés Polyphonic Choir

In turn, the San Ginés Polyphonic Choir, with a long history in the dissemination of choral singing and Canarian musical heritage, brings the musical tradition for Christmas to the town of Haría

  • Drûpe

The vintage coastal rock band Drûpe, whose members hail from France, Argentina, and the United Kingdom and are based in Lanzarote, presents their new album Peach Please on the island.

  • Humberto Ríos and Pablo Rodríguez. Conversations at La Tegala.

The La Tegala Theater Hall in Haría presents a concert by Humberto Ríos and Pablo Rodríguez that proposes a musical journey inspired by their island roots: Cuba and La Palma through eleven dialogues between piano and violin.

When: Friday, December 19th at 8:00 PM.

  • Coral Marina

The La Tegala Theater Hall presents the Coral Marina, with a long dedication to choral singing, offering a repertoire that combines traditional carols, popular pieces, and contemporary works.

  • Gospel Concert: Emaga and David González

The Church of Our Lady the Virgin of Carmen in Caleta de Sebo hosts a gospel concert that invites you to experience Christmas through the emotion of voices and the power of live performance.
