The best of the week from September 25 to October 1: film, humor, literature and lots of music

The week is starred by two days of Arrecife en Vivo, the Palabras al Vuelo Festival and many other cultural proposals

La banda neoyorquina Fan loving criminals estará en Arrecife este viernes.

The week starts with a multitude of musical proposals such as two days of Arrecife en Vivo, the first this Friday, free, will feature Le Mur, Les Greene, Fun Lovin' Criminals and Iseo & Dodosound, and the second on Saturday with Soziedad Alkoholika, Fermín Muguruza, Enac Ska and Distortion.

The musical scene is completed by a concert by the Fernández Apellániz Trio and the Toñín Corujo Quartet. There are also two talks at El Almacén about how to make a name for yourself in the recording world. Also, the Noon festival and Arrecife de Mar y Música continue.

In the seventh art section, Cine Juventud Lanzarote offers the film Bottoms and in terms of humor Petite Lorena, Abubukaka and Delia Santanahabrá will be in the Villa and Luis Piedrahita in San Bartolomé. The week also includes the musical 'The Invisible Diva' at El Salinero and Roberto Pérez's play, Basic Sign Language Manual to Break Hearts at Los Jameos.

In literature, the Palabras al Vuelo Storytelling Festival returns and Darío Machín's exhibition 'Crystallization of a Puddle' opens.

  • Bottoms. Lanzarote Youth Cinema

The film tells the story of two lesbian girls who are very unpopular in their senior year of high school, so they decide to create a fight club to impress the cheerleaders and flirt with them.

  • Petite Lorena, Abubukaka and Delia Santana

The Soplo de Letras Festival celebrates a new edition in the municipal tent of Teguise with an evening dedicated to humor with Petite Lorena, the company Abubukaka and Delia Santana.

  • Luis Piedrahita. Reislas Festival

"Apocalyptically correct" is Luis Piedrahita's new show, an ingenious monologue about the , which he will present this Sunday in Lanzarote.

  • Words to the wind

The Palabras al Vuelo Storytelling Festival returns. Listening to a story is wanting to understand the world. Reflecting in the eyes of others. Learning that borders are invented lines. Telling it is becoming giant.

TALKS

 

  • Survival Day for Musicians and Bands I

The Arrecife en Vivo training returns. On this occasion, the journalist Fernando Navarro will talk about the creation, success, pain and overcoming of a rock band.

This is Supersubmarina, one of the great national pop-rock bands of recent decades. Their success was overwhelming; their talent, immeasurable; their fall from grace after a very serious accident, unexpected and sad.

Survival Day for Musicians and Bands II

What does a band face in the current national music scene? In the current context of music in Spain, a band that decides to leave the commercial margins faces multiple barriers, both economic and cultural.

However, there are bands that grow from self-management, word of mouth, the alternative circuit and live performances. Platforms such as Bandcamp, social networks, community radios and independent festivals allow creating niches with soul, where the public that does look for something different connects.

  • The invisible diva. Musical

The invisible diva is a musical monologue performed by Alicia Ramos and directed by Oscar Rivero and Albano Matos. The show transports us to the world of Brava, a trans woman and artist who returns to the stage after years of silence.

  • Basic sign language manual to break hearts

In January 2022, the play Basic Sign Language Manual to Break Hearts, the first by Lanzarote filmmaker Roberto Pérez Toledo, premiered at the María Guerrero Theater in Madrid with production by the National Drama Center.

Roberto passed away a few days later, on January 31, 2022, a week after suffering a stroke from which he could not recover. This staging is our particular tribute to Rober.

  • Darío Machín. Crystallization of a puddle

The plastic artist Darío Machín presents his most recent work, Crystallization of a Puddle, an installation in the La Cabina space of the International Museum of Contemporary Art (MIAC), which arises from an investigation around salt as an available and adaptable material during the transformations of its states in coastal spaces.

When: Opening on September 27 at 12:00 p.m. and until December 27.

Where: La cabina space of the MIAC.

MUSIC

 

  • Fernández Apellániz Trio. Contemporary Festival of the FIMC

Within the framework of the Canary Islands International Music Festival, the trio formed by Luis Fernández (clarinet), David Apellániz (cello) and Carlos Apellániz (piano) is presented in Lanzarote, will address works by seven composers who explore the limits of sound as a territory of introspection, contemplation and transformation. Among them are the Canary creators Ángel Fernando Curbelo and Laura Vega.

  • Toñín Corujo Quartet

The Lanzarote timplista, Toñín Corujo presents his latest work at the Timple Museum in the Villa de Teguise this Friday.

  • Arrecife en Vivo. Second Friday

The second Friday with a concert route of Arrecife en Vivo begins this Saturday with the hard rock of the band from La Palma, Ella La Rabia.

At 7:30 p.m. will be the concert of the rock-punk group Le Mur in the Islas Canarias park and at 9:00 p.m. the concert of the American Les Greene, voice of Little Richard in the Elvis movie and with a great repertoire of rock and soul, begins in Marina Lanzarote.

From 10:30 p.m., only for adults, the Cruise Pier will host the concert of Fun Lovin' Criminals and then Iseo & Dodosound. The night ends with DJ Beat Creator.

  •  Arrecife en Vivo. On Fire. Human rights.

Social criticism is the common denominator of the four bands that make up the poster of 'On Fire', the most hardcore day of the Arrecife en Vivo festival that will be held at the Cruise Pier of Arrecife (Lanzarote) next Saturday, September 27.

The band from Vitoria-Gasteiz, Soziedad Alkoholika, Fermín Muguruza, the Canary band Enac Ska and the young local punk rock band, Distortion, participate. DJ CHK closes the party.

A percentage of the proceeds will go to the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

  • Amani Trio. Noon Festival

The Noon Canarias 2025 Festival brings to Arrecife this Saturday, September 27 the Amani Trio who will offer a string concert with violin, viola and cello.

  • Ten-sion 4. Arrecife of Sea and Music

The Arrecife de Mar y Música Festival returns this Saturday with the concert of Ten-sion 4, a percussion quartet made up of Paco Díaz, Emilio Díaz, Charli Llácer and Juan Miñana, members of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra.

The concert includes compositions by Steve Reich, John Cage, N.J. Zivkovic and Nino Díaz.
