This week is full of cultural activities in Lanzarote, cinema in El Almacén, theater in Los Jameos, Haría and Arrecife, talks and artistic creation on the preservation of the environment, as well as music throughout the island, including the Sonidos Líquidos festival, for which there are no tickets left, but there are tickets to see Ona Mafalda this Friday at El Almacén, an event that is part of the Festival.

In addition, we take this opportunity to congratulate the residents of Tías and Guime on the San Antonio de Padua festivities. Access their festival program on the name of the town. 

 

 

CINEMA

  • Buñuel Cinema. The kitchen

The Buñuel Cinema of El Almacén presents The Kitchen, by Mexican director Alonso Ruizpalacios.

This is a free adaptation of the homonymous play by British playwright Arnold Wesker, which narrates the complicated love relationship between Pedro, an undocumented immigrant cook relegated to the kitchen along with the rest of the foreigners, and Julia, an American waitress who travels between both worlds.

Where: El Almacén.

  • Environmental Challenges of Lanzarote. Civil Society marking the north

On International Environment Day, Haría organizes a round table to talk and reflect on the environmental challenges of Lanzarote.

THEATER

 

  • Whispers in the Port of Arrecife

Twenty actors and actresses from the Actúa 7 company will star this Thursday 5 in ‘Whispers in the Port of Arrecife’, a theatrical walk that starts from the Music Kiosk and includes several stops where works by Canarian authors such as Ángel Guerra, Josefina Torres or Antonio Tabares will be read or staged. 

When: Thursday, June 5 at 8:00 p.m.

Where: From the Music Kiosk, Arrecife.

Free admission. 

 

  • The one-eyed woman

The one-eyed woman is the first work by actor Jorge Usón as a theatrical author and director and stars actress and dancer María Jáimez. 

The play, a tragicomedy, explores the impossibility of loving and forgiving, with humor and a solo performance by Jáimez. 

When: Saturday, June 7 at 8:00 p.m.

Where: Auditorium of Jameos del Agua.

Ticket at 20 euros. 

 

  • The dance of Lunja and her shadows

The Diversos Visibles company offers, through the metaphor of shadows, a show that invites us to reflect on our perception and how we relate to the world. The search for identity and acceptance leads us to project an image of ourselves that often differs from reality. 

When: Sunday, June 8 at 7:00 p.m.

Where: Sports Center, Haría.

ARTISTIC CREATION

 

  • Waste Mural for Ocean Day

First, a cleaning of the seabed will be carried out on June 7 at ten in the morning in the Poril area, as well as on the coast of La Tiñosa.

The artist JUIN presents the following day a Waste Mural with objects removed from the natural environment.

When: Sunday, June 8. 

Where: El Fondeadero, Puerto del Carmen.

MUSIC

 

  • Musical Immersion Festival 2025

The last edition of the Lanzarote Musical Immersion Festival will culminate on Friday, June 6, which starts from the Canarian ancestry and culminates in musical fusion and innovation.

The day includes master classes in classical guitar, at the Casa Museo del Timple, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Clarinet, at the Music School, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

Lyrical and modern singing, in the Convent of Santo Domingo, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The concert will be led by cellist Ángel Luis Quintana and will feature the narration of José Carlos Campos.

When: Friday, June 6 from 4:00 p.m.

Where: Various locations in La Villa de Teguise.


 

  • Proximity Concerts. Ángel Luis Quintana

The Valterra Sociocultural Center hosts a new session of the Proximity Concerts promoted by the Nino Díaz Foundation to bring chamber music and its musical instruments closer to all citizens.

The concert will be led by cellist Ángel Luis Quintana and will feature the narration of José Carlos Campos.

When: Friday, June 6 at 7:00 p.m.

Where: Valterra Sociocultural Center, Arrecife.

  • CIEM. Soloists and Chamber Music

The end-of-year concerts of CIEM Lanzarote begin. We can enjoy a musical evening where soloists of various specialties and chamber music will perform.

When: Tuesday, June 10 at 7:00 p.m.

Where: Casa de la Cultura “Agustín de la Hoz”, Arrecife.

Free admission until full capacity. 

 

  • CIEM. Guitars, Timples and Singing. 

Under the title “Urban classical music”, the CIEM Beginner Guitars and Timples Orchestra will offer a varied repertoire where music considered classical will merge with urban dance. Next, the Singing students will offer a repertoire with works by great composers of the lyrical repertoire, including Donizetti, Totti and Mozart.

  • Class_ik Lanzarote. Ángel Luis Quintana and Rinaldo Zhok

Class_ik Lanzarote continues its commitment to musical excellence with two top-level performers: Ángel Luis Quintana on cello and Rinaldo Zhok on piano. 

When: Saturday, June 7 at 8:00 p.m.

Where: Municipal Theater of Tías.

Ticket at 15 euros.

 

  • Ona Mafalda. Liquid sounds

Tickets for the Sonidos Líquidos Festival in La Geria sold out a few days after being published. But some of the additional events organized around the festival still have tickets. 

This is the case of the Ona Mafalda concert, an artist who fuses a multitude of sounds from seventies punk to the most recent sweet pop with a provocative aesthetic.

Mafalda is the granddaughter of the last Tsar of Bulgaria, grew up between London and Mallorca and studied at the prestigious  Berklee College of Music in Boston.
