The best of the week from July 31 to August 6: cinema, classical orchestra, Mestisay and the La Tiñosa festivities

The traveling summer cinema moves to Caleta de Famara, Olga Cerpa sings in San Bartolomé and Puerto del Carmen is filled with music on the occasion of the patron saint festivities

The last week of July, the traveling summer cinema in Lanzarote moves to Calata de Famara. There are also cultural cinematographic proposals in El Almacén and in the Cines Atlántida. 

In the music section, Olga Cerpa and Mestisay will give a concert in San Bartolomé this Saturday. In addition, on the occasion of the Puerto del Carmen Festivities, there will be numerous concerts in the coastal town. Among them, a folk festival and another of habaneras. Henry Méndez will also perform, the Dominican based in Spain whose songs mix reggaeton and electronics and Tony Tun Tun who will be the headliner of the La Tiñosa y Más Festival. 

 

CINEMA

  • Summer Traveling Cinema 2025

The Summer Traveling Cinema returns to Lanzarote, touring all the municipalities until August 15. With this initiative of Tenique Cultural, the squares and corners of Lanzarote are transformed into open-air seventh art rooms. 

Films for all audiences, presentations that invite you to look with different eyes, open debates and a festive atmosphere make each session an opportunity to enjoy and think about cinema in community. 

This week the films ‘Shrek’, ’ and ‘The Name of the Rose’ are screened in Caleta de Famara.

  • Buñuel Cinema. A whale

The Buñuel Cinema of El Almacén presents A Whale, by the Spanish filmmaker Pablo Hernando. It is a science fiction thriller.

Synopsis: When Ingrid pulls the trigger, her victims don't know who shot them. Her ability to infiltrate and disappear without a trace makes her a ruthless hitman. But that power comes from another world, a place inhabited by monstrous creatures.

  • Lanzarote Youth Cinema. The two faces of justice

Cine Juventud Lanzarote presents the film The Two Faces of Justice, by the French director Jeanne Herry. 

This story addresses the concept of restorative justice, bringing together victims and aggressors to show everything that emerges in that encounter. It is a moving ode to resilience that immerses the viewer in a collective journey, imbued with sensitivity, intelligence and humanity.

  • Presentation of the ‘Ataraxia’ catalog by Eduardo Manrique

This catalog includes a part of Eduardo Manrique's artistic career, through a selection of collages, drawings and sculptural pieces that are characterized by their adherence to the languages of abstraction, the influence of the Chicago school and the Bauhaus aesthetic.

Eduardo Manrique's work is also characterized by its geometric compositions, chromatic harmony or the influence of references associated with the imagery of naval engineering.

MUSIC

 

  • Conversations with the Classical Orchestra of Lanzarote. The power of the voice

The Classical Orchestra of Lanzarote invites you to enjoy a cycle of four unique concerts in an environment full of history and beauty: the Convent of Santo Domingo, in Teguise.

This July 31, the concert The Power of the Voice is presented with the soprano Judith Pezoa, accompanied by the violinists Pablo Melián and Liliana Mesa,  Ayoze García with the Viola, Marisa Roda on the Cello and Ivanoff Rodríguez on the double bass.

It is a relaxed experience that is accompanied by a glass of white wine from Lanzarote, from Bodegas Yuco.

  • Henry Méndez

Henry Méndez is known primarily for his music in the urban genre, especially in styles such as reggaeton and electronic music, lands in Lanzarote to celebrate the Puerto del Carmen Festivities. 

The Dominican based in Spain, has also ventured into other genres such as Latin music and pop.

When: Thursday, August 7 at  8:00 p.m.

  • Mestisay and Olga Cerpa

With the unmistakable voice of Olga Cerpa at the helm, Mestisay returns to Lanzarote with its music full of tradition and modernity, emotion and belonging to the Canary archipelago. 

Mestisay received this year the Gold Medal from the Government of the Canary Islands in recognition of its professional career and connection with the Canarian identity.

Where: Municipal Theater of San Bartolomé.

  • XVII Habaneras Coral Meeting

One more year returns to Puerto del Carmen, on the occasion of its patron saint festivities, the Habaneras Coral Meeting of the town that celebrates its edition number XVII.

Where: Plaza del Varadero, Puerto del Carmen.

  • Güerma Folk Festival

Folk Festival of the Güerma Musical Cultural Group on the occasion of the Puerto del Carmen Festivities, in the Plaza del Varadero.

  • La Tiñosa y Más Festival. Tony Tun Tun

For the second consecutive year, the La Tiñosa y Más Festival celebrates the last Saturday of the patron saint festivities of Puerto del Carmen. The Puerto Rican singer Tony Tun Tun will be the headliner. 

The also trumpeter, composer and arranger, whose real name is Juan Castro, stands out for his mastery in the musical field of merengue. 

The Festival's lineup is completed by the Wamampy Orchestra, the Banda Ibaiba, the Armonía Show group and DJ Javi Fajardo.

When: Saturday, August 9 from 5:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. the following day.  

Where: Puerto de La Tiñosa, Puerto del Carmen.
