The Arrecife Carnival 2025 celebrated this Shrove Tuesday one of the most endearing events of the program prepared by the Department of Festivities of the Arrecife City Council, led by Deputy Mayor Echedey Eugenio, with the development of the Children's Costume Contest that had a total of 32 participants.
Iratxe, 4 years old, wearing the costume made by her grandmother 'Hermit Crab' took the first prize in the individual contest that had 15 contestants. The second was for Ian, the same age as the winner, with the costume 'Chocolate and cookies'; and the third for Helen, 5 years old, with 'Queen of Hearts'.
Also participating in this modality: Saori, 12 years old with 'Chesli Cat', the youngest of the Garoé Contest, 2 and a half months old with 'Hercules', Valeria, 11 months old with 'Zenón's Farm', Iriome, 7 years old with 'Hulk', Nayra, 3 years old with 'Ana from Frozen', Eidán, 8 years old with 'Up's Grandfather', Luis, 10 years old with 'Dinosaur', Lara, 2 years old with 'Pink Teddy Bear', Nicolás, 4 years old with 'Dinosaur Ranger', Leyre, 5 years old with 'Fairy Queen', Alba, 3 years old with 'The Pumpkin Witch' and May Melody, 4 years old with 'Hello Kitty'.
Couples and groups
In the couples category, the first prize went to Angel and Daniela, 7 and 8 years old, wearing the costume also made by their grandmother 'Carnival of Venice'; the second prize went to Dailos and Narella, 12 and 2 years old, with 'Narella's farm'; and the third for Rodrigo and Jimena, 11 and 8 years old, dressed as 'Mexican and Cordovan'.
The other four participating couples were Yara and Dilan, 9 years old, both with 'Ninja and Vaiana', Arian and Hugo, 5 years old, both with 'Popit', Nauel and Martina, 6 and 4 years old, with 'Caveman', and Alexia and Gisele, 10 and 3 years old, with 'Frozen and Cinderella'.
The jury, which included the Queen of the Arrecife Carnival 2025, Vanesa Cumber, and also made up of the makeup artist Victoria Rodríguez and the seamstress Belén Martín, acting as secretary Rosa Hormiga, had it easier to award the first prize in the group category as there was only one contestant made up of Greta, Carla and Alba, 8 years old, who wore the fantasy 'Queens of the Sea'.
Music, gymnastics and dance
Hosted by the representative of the murga Los Intoxicaditos Naroa Quevedo, at all times accompanied by sign language interpreters, the event also featured the participation of a large representation of the Isla de Lanzarote Gymnastics Club that as always exhibited an excellent combination of choreographies and gymnastic exercises; as well as with the songs of the Hermanos Aragón.
