Teguise celebrates Palm Sunday

The parishioners gathered at the Cristo de la Veracruz hermitage

Palm Sunday in Teguise

Teguise celebrated Palm Sunday a day earlier. At 5:30 p.m., the parishioners from the different districts of the municipality gathered at the Cristo de la Veracruz hermitage.

On the front of the hermitage, next to the entrance door, was the image of the Lord of the Little Donkey, accompanied by the parish priest Juan Manuel Molina and the parishioners carrying olive branches and some handcrafted palm fronds. Following the instructions of the parish priest, they raised the branches and palm fronds to be blessed.

Then the procession began, going through some of the cobbled streets of the Historic and Artistic Site of Teguise, ending with the entrance of the image into the church of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Immediately afterwards, the celebration of the Eucharist began, presided over by the titular parish priest, with the participation of the parishioners in the readings and songs typical of this special celebration that begins the Great Week for the Catholic community.

The Cristo de la Veracruz hermitage is a construction that dates back to the 17th century and was built under the patronage of Lucas Gutiérrez Melián.
